Zeroing in on zits

Nick Thomas
Published September 17, 2006

Pesky pimples rate high on most people's annoyance scale. High-tech relief is now available with Zeno, an electronic zit zapper.

"It's best for inflammatory acne," says Dr. Ashish Bhatia, a dermatologist at the DuPage Medical Group, Naperville. "They're the red bumps that appear suddenly and quickly grow into monsters."

Designed by Houston inventor Robert Conrad, Zeno is a cell phone-size device with a metal tip that delivers a lethal dose of heat to acne-causing bacteria. It is FDA approved and available through dermatologists and online stores for around $225.

For severe cases of acne, Bhatia says Zeno should be used in conjunction with traditional medical treatments such as topical or oral medications.
